Levitan left a huge invaluable contribution to art for our country. His canvases are known all over the world. They are studied in schools, colleges and institutes. A lot of words were said on his stories and a lot of prose was written. Levitan was very much appreciated and respected among artists. They spoke of him as the best artist, friend, good and kind person.

Levitan was able to portray the beauty of Russian nature like no one else. He was overwhelmed with love for the village, churches, simple rural landscapes. His canvases are the masterpieces and creative heritage of our state. Thanks to them, we can not only contemplate the author’s skill and mastery, but also plunge into the simple life of past centuries in Russian settlements.

Pictures of Levitan have incredible appeal, pacify, provide food for the soul. It becomes very sad about lost times and the simplicity of life in the hinterland.

The canvas "Huts" is one of the works of Levitan, which is dedicated to the almost extinct life now. The Russian village is dying, causing severe pain and longing. The picture shows the village houses. The sun is already setting, and the crimson sunset is losing ground on the setting night. Light clouds seem to lull residents of huts.

Simple peasants lived in such huts, whose life was hard. But, nevertheless, in those days she was kinder and more sincere. The houses are very simple, all are alike. Levitan loved everything that was connected with Russian nature. Simplicity in motives and their clarity was given only by the brush of the great artist. Nobody could repeat his level. Many words of regret were said that Levitan did not live a long life. After all, he could write many more masterpieces.

The canvas is in storage at the State Museum of Art and History. Nizhny Novgorod.
