Ilya Repin, a world-famous Russian artist who does not require a presentation, was famous for his preparatory paintings, which testified to his special approach to his favorite work, even after the artist's death many preparatory sketches for his famous paintings were found.
The painting "The Hunchback" of 1881, was also a sketch for his famous painting "Religious procession in the Kursk Province" 1880-1883. Writing "The Hunchback" was not easy for Repin, since he had been looking for a person for this role for a long time, and still found him in Khotkovo, the place where he often visited when he painted.
The artist painted the Hunchback many times in various poses, which is odd, because in the film Religious procession in the Kursk province, the hunchback is one of the center characters. The author wanted the young man with a hump to personify poverty and, at the same time, iron will and strong spirit, these qualities were necessary for the picture mentioned above, since in that picture of the limping hunchback, who was leaning on a stick, he threatened to hit the village headman. The hunchback's charisma clearly distinguishes him from the crowd.
Do not assume that the "Hunchback" served only as the missing part for the painting "Religious procession in the Kursk province." The deep pensive look of the young man, as well as his physical defect in the form of a hump, symbolizes a whole layer of society in Russia at the end of the 19th century, no one ever listened to opinions and needs, but nevertheless they actively participated in the public life of cities, having their independent opinion.
Considering all the moral qualities of a young man with a hump, as well as his extraordinary, charismatic appearance, the painting "The Hunchback", it is necessary to analyze separately, as another masterpiece of the great Russian artist. Repin seemed to fully open the soul of his hero and show his experiences.
